Policies & guidelines

Studio goals

Thank you for enrolling in music lessons! You or your child will be exposed to a variety of repertoire, music theory, ear training, and music history. It’s my goal for you to become proficient in your instrument and develop a love of music.

Getting started

  • Find a lesson time that will work with your weekly schedule

  • Purchase necessary books, as well as a practice notebook or chart

  • Determine a lesson length that suits your needs: 30, 45 or 60min.

  • Understand practice makes progress. Find a strategy to make your practice habits fun and frequent. Parents, please understand if your child is 7 years old or younger, they will need your help with this.

  • Parents are always welcome at our lessons! For students 7 years old or younger, you will need to sit in on our lessons regularly.

Invoicing & make-up policy

  • You will receive an invoice for two-month periods. Please make payment via check or Venmo by the due date listed on your invoice.

  • Please make every effort to attend your scheduled lessons. Consistency allows you to get the most from your investment. If you have an upcoming conflict, reach out before the 1st of the month to reschedule.

  • Make-up credits are issued for illness or planned family vacations. They are not issued if the lesson is canceled less than a day in advance or if the lesson conflicts with a school, family, or social event. If a make-up credit is not issued, the charge for the lesson remains.

  • If traveling to the studio is a barrier, we can have our lesson virtually.

  • If you need to discontinue lessons, notice must be given 30 days in advance.

Performance opportunities

  • There will be two-three performance opportunities a year.

  • Recitals provide important opportunities to strengthen our knowledge of a piece. They challenge us in a way that can be intimidating, but is assuredly beneficial.

Student expectations

  • Come prepared for your lesson. Bring all your books. It’s hard to complete a lesson without materials present.

  • Practice during the week focusing on what we discussed during your lesson. Please pay attention to your assignment book for specific details.

  • Have an open mind and be willing to try new things.

  • Be patient with yourself. Learning music is like learning another language. It takes time and practice.

  • Come ready to have fun and learn the joy of playing an instrument.

Enrollment and payment for lessons is considered acceptance of the terms and conditions laid out above.
